Gish: String Quartet No. 2
Nicholas Gish's String Quartet is subtitled "if(love){love()};". Mr. Gish writes about this:
In programming for the Web, the browser window is the global space in which everything happens. Logically, this global space is assumed to be true. This is a tiny program that allows you to log the global object by running in the console: love( );
This is part metaphor, part silliness, part extrapolatable item for contemplation.
In this work, Gish explores extreme dynamic ranges and numerous patterns that bounce between the instruments. The work calls for plenty of ensemble work, focusing on joint entrances and exploring balance and blend of sound.
As this work has yet to be recorded, we are providing below a computer generated performance to provide an idea of what the work sounds like. A true human performance would provide much more sensitivity and flexibility in the sound.
