William Buelow began his work with Maria Bacon MacDonald's poetry after reading one of her Christmas poems. After contacting her to seek permission to set the poem to music, he received even more poetry from Ms. MacDonald. Three of these poems became a set of three Christmas Anthems that Mr. Buelow completed in 1996.
Father Send an Angel Bright sets the text of Ms. MacDonald's "Prayer for My Friends." It's a beautiful, short work for chorus with lovely words.
Father, send an angel bright
Swiftly o'er the earth tonight;
Let him touch each friend I love
With Thy healing from above.
Let him whisper in their ears,
Words of hope, that dry their tears;
Give them peace and quiet rest
Trusting, that Thy will is best.
Father, send Thy angel there -
Guard my friends, this is my prayer,
And may they know, from Thee he came,
This I ask, in Jesus' Name - Amen.
