Hiller: Fantasiestück

Rarely heard today, the Fantasiestück for Violin and Orchestra by Ferdinand Hiller is a short concert gem. Featuring a flashy violin part with plenty of variety, the work provides a unique voice to the soloist. Interestingly, the Opus number is shared with Hiller's Violin Concerto, so is customarily referred to as Op. 152b, while the Violin concerto holds the Op. 152 indicator. This edition was edited heavily, relying on first edition scores and modern typesetting and performance practice, as well as extensive correction of errors present in the first edition of the score.
